Abstinence Walk June 14, 2003

On Friday night we met for practice and preparation for the Abstinence Walk.
Here Sihle and Mandla are preparing the placards that people wore/carried while walking.

This is a photo from the first leg of the walk.
It was nice and chilly at 7:30 a.m. when the walk began,
but it was nice and warm by the time it was all finished.

I'm glad I was able to get these pictures, because I was driving around collecting things and people that we needed at certain places, and wasn't able to walk at all. Here the group is approaching the Trade Fair Grounds in Manzini where the service was held afterwards.

This is a shot from behind as the group enters the Trade Fair grounds.

Frans Dlamini, a popular Swazi Gospel artist, shown here with his choir, graciously performed for our service after the walk. Several other groups and artists also performed free of charge.
We relied on their presence to attract participants.

This is a shot of the crowd in the seats at the stadium.
We estimate that 300 or 400 people participated in the day's events.

Faith Dlamini, a representative from the National Emergency Response
Commission on HIV/AIDS (NERCHA) spoke at the service.
NERCHA provided funding for several key things that made the day a success.
